Tutorial on Making Media Work on Your Land

GETTING STARTED - FIRST THING TO DO

Before you do anything, you should secure your land from griefers.   Immediately go to your land options and set it to the following:

1.  Open your Land Options.

2.  On the OPTIONS tab, make sure that you have UNSELECTED "Edit Terrain" and the TWO boxes that say "ALL RESIDENTS" next to "CREATE OBJECTS" AND "OBJECT ENTRY".   If you do not UNSELECT these, you could come home to find your land seriously changed by a griefer.

2.  On the MEDIA tab, ALWAYS restrict sounds to your own parcel.  This will prevent you from gearing the neighbors objects and them hearing yours.   This is especially important if you have breedable animals.

QUESTION:  I Bought my land are their other fees involved?

ANSWER:  Yes, in second life, there really is no suck thing as "Owning" land and not having to pay a weekly fee.   The difference between owning and renting land on Second Life is more about the land options that the Estate Owner gives you.   At Second Lifestyles, you will receive all owner rights on your land.

QUESTION:  Where to I pay my weekly tier an what happens if I am late?

ANSWER:  You pay your tier using our ATM machines, located at our land office, located at http://slurl.com/secondlife/Second%20Lifestyles/96/111/22.   Just touch the ATM, it will recognize you.  Follow the instructions that it gives to you.  :)

We sell our properties amongst the lowest prices on Second Life.   In order for us to continue to do this, we must have payments made on-time.   However, we do understand that sometimes things happen and we will work with you, as long as you communicate with us.    If we do not hear from you, we generally use the following guidelines:

1)  We will notify you when your payment is within 24 hours of coming due.

2)  If your land payment is late, we may lock your Sim until it is brought current.

3)  After 24 hours late, your Sim may be reclaimed, and your items returned to you.  SL Estates is not responsible for any items that do not make it back into your inventory.

Again, communication is the key, we are pretty easy going, as long as you talk to us, we will try to work with you.

QUESTION:   What can an Estate Manager do, that a Land Owner Can't?

ANSWER:  Basically the Estate Manager can restart the Sim, Send Broadcast Messages to the Sim, set the Sim's Rating, and Re-texture the ground.  Here is a good tutorial on how to work the Region / Estate options.

QUESTION:  How many Estate Managers Am I Allowed

ANSWER:   TWO, but we STRONGLY recommend that ONLY the person who purchased the Sim have Estate Manager Rights.  Once you give someone EM rights, they have TOTAL control of your Sim.   Should your friendship / relationship fail (Lets face it, this is SL), they can seriously mess up your estate.

If you want people to have owner rights, they do NOT need estate rights.  Just deed the land to a group and give them owner rights through the group.

NOTE:  If you decide to give someone EM Rights, other then yourself, Second Lifestyles will NOT be responsible for any damage that the other EM may cause.

QUESTION:  How long will it take to get Estate Manager rights?

ANSWER:  We strive to get your EM rights within 48 hours if purchasing the Sim (Usually MUCH sooner).   However, we do have hundreds of Estates, so mistakes can happen.   If you do not have your estate manager rights within 48 hours of buying the Sim, please contact SLE Management.

QUESTION:   Can I buy more Prims for my Sim?

ANSWER:  Unfortunately not.   The prims that your Sim has is nit set my Second Lifestyle Estates, they are set by Linden Labs.  ALL Homesteads have 3750 Prims and ALL FP Sims have 15,000 Prims, regardless of where you purchase them.  It is not possible for them to be increased.

QUESTION:   How do I use my land options?

ANSWER:  Watch this tutorial for a great overview of all of your land options:

QUESTION:   Can I allow more then one person to have owner rights on my land?

ANSWER:   Yes.  Simply deed your land to a group, and give other people rights on the land through their group roles.

QUESTION:  Can I parcel my land into smaller plots...   or join smaller plots into one?

ANSWER:   Yes, you can do both.    To view a tutorial on how to do join or split land simply watch this video:

QUESTION:   How do I terraform my land?

ANSWER:  We allow all residents to terraform their land, within reason.   We do require that you maintain the "look and feel" of the Sim.   Please make sure to read your Sim's Covenant before you start terraforming.   To learn how to terraform, simply watch this video:

QUESTION:  How do I deed my land?    And why would I want to?

ANSWER:   Deeding your land is necessary if you want group members to have land rights.  It is also needed if you plan on using a media controller, such as a television or radio.

To deed your land, Right click on the land, and select "About Land".   Your land window will appear.    First you will need to set your group, using the "Set" button.    The click "Allow Deed to Group".   Then click the DEED button and your done.  The owner of the land will change from your name, to your groups name.

If the options still show you as the owner, it is NOT deeded.

QUESTION:   Why isn't my TV or Radio working?

ANSWER:  To use media controllers your land MUST be deeded to a group. The controller, (Radio or TV) must also be deeded to the same group.

NOTE: If you are using a TV, on the Media tab of your land options, make the drop down say "Movie" and drag the texture that your TV uses on the screen your watching to the texture box, also on the Media Tab.

If the options still show you as the owner, it is NOT deeded.

Here is a great tutorial on making media (Movies or Music), work on your land.
